The authors experienced one case of acute pure red cell aplasia associated with auto-immune hemolytic anemia characterized by IgG, warm type antibody, hemoglotinuria, reticulocytopenia and erythroid hypoplasia of the bone marrow.
The cause of the illness was not definitely identified, but the authors concluded that this patient had idiopathic autoimmune red cell aplasia with hemolytic anemia rather than virus induced or drug induced especially mefenamic acid. After prednisolone therapy, the heimolytic anemia showed prompt recovery within few days and red cell aplasia recovered completly within 20 days. The authors report this case with review of literatures.
